<Emphasis Type="Italic">k</Emphasis>-factors in regular graphs

Plesnik in 1972 proved that an （m - 1）-edge connected m-regular graph of even order has a 1-factor containing any given edge and has another 1-factor excluding any given m - 1 edges. Alder et al. in 1999 showed that if G is a regular （2n ＋ 1）-edge-connected bipartite graph, then G has a 1-factor containing any given edge and excluding any given matching of size n. In this paper we obtain some sufficient conditions related to the edge-connectivity for an n-regular graph to have a k-factor containing a set of edges and （or） excluding a set of edges, where 1 ≤ k ≤n/2. In particular, we generalize Plesnik＇s result and the results obtained by Liu et al. in 1998, and improve Katerinis＇ result obtained 1993. Furthermore, we show that the results in this paper are the best possible.

Scanning photoemission spectromicroscopic study of 4-nm ultrathin SiO(3.4) protrusions probe-induced on the native SiO(2) layer

Atomic force microscopy probe-induced large-area ultrathin SiO(x) (x ≡ O/Si content ratio and x > 2) protrusions only a few nanometers high on a SiO(2) layer were characterized by scanning photoemission microscopy (SPEM) and X-ray photoemission spectroscopy (XPS). SPEM images of the large-area ultrathin SiO(x) protrusions directly showed the surface chemical distribution and chemical state specifications. The peak intensity ratios of the XPS spectra of the large-area ultrathin SiO(x) protrusions provided the elemental quantification of the Si 2p core levels and Si oxidation states (such as the Si(4+), Si(3+), Si(2+), and Si(1+) species). The O/Si content ratio (x) was evidently determined by the height of the large-area ultrathin SiO(x) protrusions.     

Syntheses and Structural Characterization of 1D Coordination Polymers of Transition‐Metal Atoms Containing 2,4‐Pyridinedicarboxylate Bridges

By employing one bridging ligand, 2,4‐pyridinedicarboxylate (2,4‐pda^2?), three one‐dimensional (1D) coordination polymers of [Cu(2,4‐pda)(H₂O)₂]_∞ ( 1 ), {[Cu₄(2,4‐pda)₄(H₂O)₈]·3H₂O}_∞ ( 2 ), and {[Cd(2,4‐pda)(H₂O)₃]·H₂O}_∞ ( 3 ) were synthesized. A simple zigzag polymeric chain is observed for both 1 and 3 , but a railroad‐like zigzag polymeric chain is observed for 2. Almost all water molecules, whether coordinated or not, are involved in hydrogen bonding interactions and help to tie up the 1D polymeric chains of 1‐3 into a three‐dimensional (3D) network. A comparison about the coordination geometries in all similar coordination polymers available to date is also included.     

High performance liquid chromatographic analysis of six conjugated and unconjugated estrogens in serum.

Six estrogens-estrone, equilin, estradiol, sodium estrone sulphate, sodium equilin sulphate and sodium 17-alpha-dihydroequilin sulphate in dog serum were successfully separated and quantified by a high performance liquid chromatographic method developed in our laboratories. The mobile phase was optimized by studying the effects of an organic modifier (acetonitrile) and an ion pairing reagent (tetrabutylammonium hydroxide). The serum sample work-up procedure was designed to recover both conjugated and unconjugated estrogens. The optimum method involved acetonitrile to precipitate serum proteins/peptides and extract estrogens. Residues were reconstituted in 50% acetonitrile in water for injection. The detection limits for these six estrogens via UV detection ranged from 0.5 to 5 ng on-column with a signal-to-noise ratio (S/N) of 10 for a 20 microL injection and via fluorescence 0.1 ng on-column for 17-beta-estradiol. Validation data are included for all six estrogens.

An inverse spectral problem

In this article an infinite periodic Jacobi matrix is under consideration. It is shown that the spectrum of the matrix consists of a single finite interval if and only if the period of the matrix is equal to unity.     

Accelerated direct electrochemistry of hemoglobin based on hemoglobin-carbon nanotube (Hb-CNT) assembly

In this study, we have demonstrated that hemoglobin can be coupled to acid-treated multiwall carbon nanotubes in the presence of 1-ethyl-3-(3-dimethylaminopropyl) carbodiimide (EDC) and assembled as hemoglobin-carbon nanotube (Hb-CNT) composites. Our observations of the electrochemical studies demonstrate that the electrochemical response of Hb-CNT assembled in the presence of EDC is much higher than that in the absence of EDC. It is evident that the direct electron transfer of hemoglobin could be effectively accelerated in the Hb-CNT assembly by using EDC on a glassy carbon electrode (GCE), and the relative electron transfer rate constant K(s) is found to be 1.02+/-0.05 s(-1). The results of our studies illustrate that the assembly of hemoglobin-multiwall carbon nanotubes using EDC could provide a novel strategy to effectively facilitate the direct electrochemistry of heme-containing proteins, which could be further utilized as a promising biosensor for some specific biological substrate and related biological process.
